The 5000sq ft basement boiler room at The Grand hotel has been transformed in to the stylish and wonderful modern Chinese restaurant, Tattu.
The luxury bar and restaurant is the biggest of its kind in Birmingham, and opened recently to an excited buzz amongst locals.

Owner Adam Jones told BirminghamLive: "Our other restaurants were blank canvasses. This one, because of its heritage, had lots of details that we had to work around."

The Grand's old boiler room is split into two areas which made this project an "exciting design challenge" for Tattu.

Adam said: "That's how we came up with splitting the design of the place into two styles - inspired by the ancient Chinese philosophy of yin and yang.

"This is what makes Birmingham Tattu so special and unique. Our other two restaurants have the same feel throughout. Birmingham diners will have two separate experiences."

The ‘Yang’ experience seems to be the more contemporary of the two.
Stepping inside into the lit up room covered in imported rock from Hong Kong, guests will feel as though they have stepped into a luxurious cave.
This is also the bar area, which instantly gives the space a more relaxed, fun atmosphere.



Other guests will descend a gorgeous cream marble staircase in to the ‘Yin’ inspired ground floor, which is the signature Tattu experience.
"This is a premium restaurant so we have to deliver an exceptional customer journey and I feel we have achieved this. I'm really proud of what we have created. And I can promise you the food matches the atmosphere. ""We have incorporated more booth-style tables, as Chinese food is all about the concept of sharing" Says Adam.

Adorned with beautiful Cherry Blossom trees, oriental artwork and imported precious rock. This part of the restaurant will most definitely be the most Instagram-able! Not to mention that there is also an open kitchen where you can watch the Chef’s prepare the delicious food.

"Half of our kitchen staff are from East Asia but our head chefs have come from Michelin and AA Rosette backgrounds. The emphasis is on cooking healthy Chinese food, using modern fine dining techniques with the kind of presentation you'd expect to see in a high end fine dining restaurant.

"We did our research in Birmingham and certainly in the city centre there is nowhere offering modern Chinese cuisine in premium surroundings."
